Cameron Smith is excited about the upcoming season for LIV Golf, as it was announced that the series will be returning to Australia next year. The tournament, set to take place in Adelaide on the 26 – 28th of April, will mark the beginning of LIV’s third full season. Smith, who has faced criticism for leaving the PGA Tour after winning The Open last year, is eager to compete on home soil once again. In a podcast with ABC Sport’s @QuentinHull, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m ecstatic. There’s definitely no regret here. I think for me having an event in Adelaide this year and we’re going back there next year, you know, that was so much fun.”
Smith, who has had a successful career, is looking forward to returning to Australia and having an off-season in his native country. He mentioned, “It was fun to play in front of the home crowd and it’s also really nice to have an off-season at home in Australia as well.” Despite criticism, Smith is confident in his decision, explaining, “I think naturally, being Australian, we’re kind of world travelers anyway, you know, we’re so far away from everything. And those seven or eight years on the PGA tour were really nice. Very easy to get around, but I did miss the international travel.”
During the 2023 LIV Golf season, Smith earned around $22 million, solidifying his status as one of the top players in the game. His return to Australia will see him compete in the Australian PGA tournament as well as the ISPS HANDA Australian Open, both highly anticipated events. The CEO of the PGA of Australia, Gavin Kirkman, expressed excitement about Smith’s participation, stating, “I’m sure he’ll be ready to put on a great show once again at Royal Queensland. With Cam locked in for both fields, the Australian PGA and Australian Open will be must-see events.”
With his upcoming appearances in Australia, Smith is looking to continue his success and showcase his game while inspiring the next generation of golfers. His presence at the LIV Golf events in his home country is sure to generate excitement and draw crowds eager to witness his skill on the course.
